As a regional government agency charged with managing two landfills in Central Iowa, Metro Waste Authority promotes recycling efforts in the business sector, but leaves the collection, processing and resale of recyclable items to the private industry.
Where to Turn for Collection
Due to the growing popularity of the curbside recycling program, Curb It!, businesses often turn to Metro Waste Authority for recycling collection. We do manage curbside program for the suburbs as a city service, but we do not provide collection or roll-off services to businesses. We encourage businesses to contact their existing garbage hauler for pricing. Learn how to start recycling at your workplace through our guided step-by-step process.
Search our Recycling Guide to learn how to recycle specific materials such as batteries, computers, construction demolition, metal and more.
Many businesses now offer recycling. The rules at home also apply at work. Learn the local recycling rules in our Curb It! residential section. Or you can download a flyer to post at home or work.
Other Local Resources
Businesses produce various types of waste streams. The most common recyclables are the same ones you find at home: plastics with twist of lids, metal cans, paper, cardboard and glass. Businesses producing large quantities of certain materials, are encouraged to check with these local resources for options on reusing or recycling the waste.
