Metro Waste Authority (MWA) is pleased to present the first ever Green Run at the Metro Park East Landfill, Sunday, September 16 at 10:00 a.m. The Green Run consists of a 10K cross country/road race and a 5K fun run/walk. MWA’s Metro Park East Landfill is located just 10 miles east of the Iowa State Fairgrounds on University Ave/Hwy 163 in eastern Polk County.

Different, but the same

That is how one might describe the Green Run.  As a runner, you will experience the same adrenaline boost and challenge of other cross-country races, with uphill battles and varying degrees of terrain.  The difference comes in the scenery.  One might expect to see nothing but mounds of trash and debris at a race sponsored by a landfill.  However, we bet you will be pleasantly surprised.  Athletes will run across resotred prairie and wetlands, and view recycling and water protection at work throughout the course.

Come run with us!  We've taken the landfill back to nature.

$20 if registered by September 1, 2007

Packet Pick-up

Race packets will be available Thursday and Friday, September 13 and 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at MWA's Central Office, 300 E. Locust, Ste. 100, in downtown Des Moines.  Packets will also be available on the day of the race at the Metro Park East Landfill.

Prizes

$3,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to 10K participants.  The awards will be given to first and second place in 12 age divisions (for both male and female) and to the overall male and female winners.
