If your community participates in the Compost It! program, there are three ways to recycle your yard waste using the Standard Service program:
- Placing yard waste into Compost It! bags – no sticker required
- Placing yard waste into generic, store-brand paper bags – must attach a Compost It! sticker to each bag
- Attach Compost It! stickers to brush bundles too large to fit in the bags – each bundle must have a sticker attached
Bundles must be no more than 18 inches in diameter, and no more than four feet long. Bundles and bags cannot weigh more than 40 pounds. Des Moines and Urbandale have additional restrictions – please see your community page for more information. Bundles and generic paper bags must each have a Compost it! sticker attached.

Official Compost It! bags and stickers are available for purchase at these participating hardware, grocery and home improvement stores.
$1.55 per Compost It! bag, or $7.75 for a bundle of five*
With the Compost It! bag, no additional stickers or purchases are required - it's a one-stop-shopping package!
$1.10 per Compost It! sticker*
The Compost It! stickers are for use with store-brand paper yard waste bags; they must also be attached to brush bundles that are no more than 18 inches in diameter and no more than four feet long. Bundles cannot weigh more than 40 pounds.

Note: Residents or other customers can also bring bulk or Compost It! bagged yard waste to the Metro Park East Landfill to be composted. Please see the "Rates & Payment" area of the Metro Park East Landfill facility page for pricing information.
