Sandblast media - Sandblast media may be accepted at the MPE Landfill with proper permitting. See the special waste page for more information.

Scrap Aluminum - Alter Trading Corporation in Des Moines will purchase scrap aluminum that meets certain standards. They can be contacted at 515-265-7377.

Sharps - Sharps can be taken to MWA's Regional Collection Center in a puncture-proof container that is labeled appropriately.

Shellac - Shellac can be taken to the Regional Collection Center.

Smoke detectors - Smoke detectors can be thrown in the garbage.

Special Waste - Special waste may be accepted at the MPE Landfill with proper permitting. See the special waste page for more information

Spot remover - Spot remover can be taken to the Regional Collection Center.

Stain - Stain can be taken to the Regional Collection Center.

 

 

Televisions - Televisions can be taken to the Regional Collection Center for recycling.  The cost to recycle these items is $.50 per pound. At this time, we are not able to accept console televisions, or televisions with screen more than 27" wide. 

Thermostats - Thermostats are considered appliances and can be taken to the MPE Landfill for a $10 recycling fee.  Residents within MWA's service area may also recycle mercury thermostats at the Regional Collection Center for no charge.

Tin Cans - The Curb It! recycling program accepts tin cans. There is no need to remove the labels, but please rinse them out. Containers may be crushed. Tin cans may also be taken to the Metro Recycling Center.

Tires - Tires may be taken to the Metro Recycling Center or the MPE Landfil. Fees for tire recycling range from $2 to $20, depending on their size. Solid or pressed forklift, golf cart or lawnmower tires are not accepted.
