The Disposal Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations and personnel at Metro Park East Landfill, Metro Park West Landfill, Metro Compost Center, and Model-Farming facilities to ensure compliance with regulated standard operating procedures, health and safety programs. Determines work priorities, monitors work practices, promotes a team environment, fosters responsibility and accountability to maximize operating efficiencies, maintains budget, and ensures environmental compliance. Effectively manages to improve performance and productivity by ensuring the highest standards of environmental safety and operational excellence are met.

Below is a sampling the responsibilities managed by this position:

  • Manages day-to-day operations and provides leadership at all assigned work locations. Establishes work priorities, recognizes developmental needs of workforce, recognizes and implements discipline in the union workforce and coordinates various repair, service, and related tasks required to keep the facilities operational. Is the management liaison between the unions and MWA.
  • Responsible for managing the effective placement and compaction of solid waste at the working face. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and increase efficiencies.
  • Directs and manages the equipment maintenance team, sets priorities for maintenance and repair and assists in determining equipment replacement schedules.
  • Manages the operation of the Model-Farming site to include building ponds, terraces, and road crossings, plans and implements model farming practices to include construction of waterways, ponds, wetlands, terraces etc. Applies MWA’s environmental ethic to land usage practices.
  • Ensures that all operations comply with all applicable regulations and MWA plans and regulations.
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of budgets for each operation.

Requirements: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university in any job-related curriculum. Two years municipal experience in the solid waste industry or similar field.

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits, including IPERS.
