Bring Recycling & Hazardous Materials to Northwest Drop-Off

posted 10/5/2016

Open Second Saturday of the Month from 8 a.m. to Noon

Whether it’s a stack of cardboard boxes from online orders or leftover stain from your deck project, when you prepare your home, garage and yard for the colder months, you need options to get rid of unwanted items. The Northwest Drop-Off in Grimes is a convenient stop for your fall disposal needs. In addition to accepting hazardous waste the second Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to Noon (March- December), a free recycling drop-off is also now available to residents.

Drop Off Your Hazardous Materials

During any good clean-out, it’s likely you’ll come across hazardous products to dispose of that should not go in the regular trash. Items like oil, gas, fertilizers, pesticides, paint and stain are considered hazardous. Even products you find under the kitchen sink, like floor cleaner, furniture polish and oven cleaner contain chemicals that can be harmful to people and the environment if not disposed of properly.

There are two locations where residents can dispose of hazardous materials free of charge (including THIS SATURDAY in Grimes).

  1. Northwest Drop-Off – Open the second Saturday of the month (including THIS SATURDAY) from March-December, the site is located 1.5 miles northwest of I-80/35 and Hwy. 141 in Grimes. See hours and accepted items.
  2. Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off – A year-round hazardous waste drop-off facility located outside of Bondurant (half-mile north of I-80 on Highway 65). See hours and accepted items.

Drop Off Your Recycling

In addition to accepting hazardous waste the second Saturday of each month, a free recycling drop-off is also now available on site at the same time. Cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and jugs, and other recyclables are accepted. A recycling drop-off is also on site at the Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off in Bondurant during regular business hours.
