Dispose of Tires For Free

Mark Your Calendar for Your Community Drop-Off

If you plan to buy new tires soon, or if your old tires have overextended their welcome in your garage, we have a convenient, responsible disposal option – for free. Dumping and stockpiling used tires can create serious health and safety risks. In Iowa, it’s illegal to dump tires, and non-shredded tires are banned from landfills. Metro Waste Authority partners with the communities listed below to offer an annual tire drop-off.

2013 Collection Dates for Partner Communities:

Altoona Hartford Polk City
Ankeny Johnston Prairie City a.m. & p.m.
Bondurant Mitchellville Urbandale
Carlisle Norwalk West Des Moines

Each household can drop off a maximum of five tires with the rims removed. In special situations where a household may have more than five tires, please contact Metro Waste Authority to be considered for an exemption. This program does NOT ACCEPT the following types of tires at the collection site:
1. Scrap tires generated by any business
