Are Plastic Bags Taking Over Your House? Join the Earth Month Plastic Bag Swap

Have Plastic Shopping Bags Taken Over Your Cabinet or Drawer?

Have we got a deal for YOU! As part of our ongoing Bring Your Own Bag campaign, Metro Waste Authority has launched the Earth Month Plastic Bag Swap to communities and residents of the Des Moines Metro. Any and all communities we serve are invited to participate during April, which is Earth Month.

Recycle Your Plastic Bags AND Get a Free Reusable Bag

Starting April 1, residents can simply bring a bagful of plastic bags to their City Hall, place them in the designated Earth Month Plastic Bag Swap container and receive a Metro Waste Authority reusable tote bag for FREE (one bag per household while supplies last). When dropping off your bags, look for recycling containers artfully decorated by students in the Johnston and West Des Moines Community School Districts’ after-school programs.

Great Opportunity for YOUR Community

In addition, you can help your community win a beautiful park bench from Plastic Recycling of Iowa Falls. Made from durable 100% recycled plastic, the bench will be awarded to the city that collects the most plastic bags (per capita) during the month of April. Bags will be recycled locally.

Please plan to take part in the Earth Month Plastic Bag Swap and help stop plastic bag litter in your neighborhoods and waterways. And the win-win? Your community could receive a great bench that will provide years of enjoyment in a park near you. Want to join the Earth Month Plastic Bag Swap Competition? >> More Info
