Have you ever wondered where your garbage goes after it leaves the curb, how yard waste is turned into compost, or what happens to those appliances you tossed out?
Join us on Saturday, June 10 to learn about all this and more!
From 3-5 PM, we are offering a free, behind-the-scenes driving tour of Metro Park East Landfill, the largest landfill in Iowa.
The educational tour, which will take about 30 minutes to complete, will follow the journey of garbage, recycling, and yard waste once it arrives at the site and will show an up-close look at waste disposal zones, habitat preservation areas, and a variety of innovative recycling initiatives.
Informative audio clips will be available at each stop along the way. Guests will also enjoy a scavenger hunt and view a garbage truck and other large equipment.
Rules and Guidelines
- Be considerate of others and maintain a steady pace.
- Stay on the designated tour route.
- Be cautious of the vehicles around you.
- Volunteers wearing safety vests will help direct traffic if you have questions.
- Roads may be muddy due to rain.
