summer camp

Looking for a fun, engaging, and educational summer experience for your child? Check out our registration calendar to sign up for one of our recycling-focused, action-packed summer camps!

Recycling Rocks! Camp

June 16-19 | 9 AM–Noon | For incoming 1st-3rd graders

This four-day camp is packed with STEM activities, behind-the-scenes discoveries, and big “aha!” moments. Campers will explore the fascinating world of recycling, from what can (and can’t) go in the recycling cart to what really happens after it leaves the curb. Hosted inside the Education Center at Metro Recycling Facility, in Grimes, this camp puts kids right where the action happens. They’ll have a blast building, experimenting, problem-solving, and discovering how to be confident environmental stewards!

Snacks will be provided, and campers should bring their own water bottles.

One-Day Makerspace Camps

Our one-day makerspace camps transform the Education Center at Metro Recycling Facility, in Grimes, into a dynamic, engaging Makerspace! Each session features a different theme, but they all include:

  • A behind-the-scenes look at what happens to recyclables
  • Large-scale cardboard building challenges
  • Access to all the tools and materials needed to create something amazing

Snacks will be provided, but campers should bring their own lunch and a water bottle!

Summer 2026 One-Day Makerspace Camp opportunities include:

  • Make it Work!
    June 11 | 9 AM-3 PM | For students entering 6th-8th grade

Cardboard and circuits combine in this engineering-powered exploration. Campers will design and build creations that work, lighting up, moving, and solving problems along the way.

  • Make it Wild!
    July 9 | 9 AM-3 PM | For students entering 4th-5th grade

Build a zoo from the ground up! Using cardboard and imagination, campers will design habitats, animals, and interactive elements in this wildly creative session.

  • Make it Urban!
    July 16 | 9 AM-3 PM | For students entering 1st-5th grade

Grab your hard hats, city planners… it’s time to build! Working together, campers will turn cardboard into a town with buildings, houses, vehicles, and plenty of creativity and character.

All of Metro Waste Authority’s summer camps nurture creativity, curiosity, and care for the world around us. All camp experiences are planned and facilitated by Metro Waste Authority’s Education and Outreach Coordinator Sarah Borzo, who is an experienced classroom teacher and STEM educator, and are deliberately designed to empower children to be safe, responsible, and knowledgeable environmental stewards.
