What's An Eco Advocate?

testEco Advocates are ambassadors for all the things Metro Waste Authority is passionate about, from recycling and garbage to environmental stewardship.

Equipped with seasonal content prompts, cool swag, and main character energy, Eco Advocates help Metro Waste Authority create relevant and authentic short-form content in their homes, schools, and communities.

Our ambassadors can be individuals, families, or community groups passionate about waste and the environment – or even people simply wanting to help settle family debates on what’s recyclable!

Sound like you?! We're taking applications until May 31, 2024!

What's In It For Me?

  • Behind-the-scenes opportunities. Eco Advocates will have access to exclusive tour opportunities where they can get all kinds of neat information and footage, such as what the recycling process looks like, or how exactly appliances are demanufactured.
  • Exclusive swag. Through the ambassador program, Eco Advocates receive unique, curated swag for themselves, as well as special items that can be handed out as they generate content.
  • Enhanced visibility. Creating content that’s regularly shared to personal social pages as well as Metro Waste Authority’s accounts can increase each Eco Advocate’s visibility and exposure in the community. It  also provides a great opportunity to enhance and refine skills related to media creation!

The following values serve as a compass for Metro Waste Authority, and we’re looking for Eco Advocates who can celebrate them through interactions in the community and the content created.

  • Anyone in one of Metro Waste Authority’s planning areas* can become an Eco Advocate! We are looking for a diverse range of both individuals and groups like families or roommates.

While it’s not required, preference will be given to those with more active social pages that show experience in video content creation.

*Planning area includes Ankeny, Bondurant, Carlisle, Clive, Dawson, Des Moines, Elkhart, Grimes, Hartford, Jefferson, Johnston, Linden, Minburn, Mingo, Mitchellville, Norwalk, Perry, Pleasant Hill, Polk City, Polk County, Prairie City, Redfield, Runnells, Sheldahl, Urbandale, Waukee, West Des Moines, and Windsor Heights.

  • Eco Advocates are ambassadors for one year at a time, with the opportunity to reapply every year!

  • We’re looking for Eco Advocates to help create fun, relevant, and authentic content related Metro Waste Authority services and programs! Because of that, Eco Advocates will be required to create at least one short-form video per month to post on personal social pages and/or Metro Waste Authority’s accounts.

Videos can be created organically or based around seasonal content prompts provided by Metro Waste Authority. However, at least two videos created must come from the prompts each quarter.

Ready to become an ambassador? Apply by May 31, 2024!
