If you are a high school senior or college student who plans to pursue a career in an environmental field, Metro Waste Authority wants to help.  

The Environmental Stewardship Scholarships, worth $1,000 each, are awarded to two individuals who demonstrate a vested interest in the environment and are continuing their education in an environmental field.

Who is eligible?  

  • Applicants must reside in Metro Waste Authority’s service area (Alleman, Altoona, Ankeny, Bondurant, Carlisle, Clive, Dawson, Des Moines, Elkhart, Grimes, Hartford, Jefferson, Johnston, Linden, Minburn, Mingo, Mitchellville, Norwalk, Perry, Pleasant Hill, Polk City, Polk County, Prairie City, Redfield, Runnells, Sheldahl, Urbandale, Waukee, West Des Moines, Windsor Heights) 
  • Applicants must be pursuing an environmental field 
  • Applicants must attend, or plan to attend a college, university, or vocational school in Iowa 
  • Applicants must be classified as an incoming full-time student or full-time student in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year at an accredited college during their time of application, AND at the time funds are disbursed 

How do I apply? 

Complete this application. 

Provide an official transcript of grades. An “official” transcript will have a raised seal, the registrar’s signature or is submitted by a Transcript Services Company.

When should I apply? 

All applications must be submitted by May 1, 2020. Recipients of the award will be notified May 25, via email.
