sparky

Sparky is our friendly mascot who helps remind us about safe battery disposal. You can often find him hanging out in a city near you, especially where battery drop-offs are located!

As our battery-boosting buddy, Sparky helps us safely and responsibly dispose of batteries by reminding that they do not belong in the garbage or recycling. Improperly disposed batteries and small electronics can start major fires!

Fires make Sparky, and his friends at Metro Waste Authority, sad. They are dangerous, super hot, and mess up the fun stuff we like to do, such as sorting recyclables at Metro Recycling Facility and smashing garbage with giant equipment at Metro Park East Landfill.

Since Sparky came to play, more than 13,000 pounds of batteries have been collected across 28 locations. Battery drop-offs are placed at convenient locations such as city hall, libraries, and public services facilities.

Recently, Sparky has been popping up all over town reminding us that if it buzzes, beeps, flashes, or can be recharged, it doesn’t belong in the garbage or recycling!

Instead, visit a battery drop-off location near you to safely dispose of batteries.
