Whether you prefer to fire up the grill for a family meal or plan a block party for the entire neighborhood, we can all agree that Iowa summers are perfect for being outside! This summer, spend more time soaking up the sun and less time wondering how to dispose of your backyard toys, leftovers from the grill, and other summer items.

Inflatable toys: Having so much fun this summer that you've put a hole in a few of your inflatable pool toys? Inflatable toys belong in your garbage, not your recycling!
Garden hoses: Is that old garden hose on its last leg? When it finally kicks it, the hose belongs in your garbage, not your recycling. Hoses that end up at the Metro Recycling Facility can jam up our equipment pretty quickly!
Aluminum cans: When you're done popping the top, give the can a quick rinse and toss it in your Curb It! recycling cart. Cans like these are back on the shelf in as little as 60 days after being recycled!
Plastic cups: Red solo cups are a summer BBQ staple, but they can't be recycled! Plastic cups like these belong in your garbage.
Plastic bottles: Wondering if your plastic is recyclable? Do the twist! If your plastic has a twist-off lid, like water bottles, you can recycle it in your Curb It! recycling cart.
Leftovers: Eyes bigger than your stomach? Leftovers and food waste belong in your garbage, not your recycling or yard waste!
Plant pots: Plastic pots provide pretty decorations for your yard, but they can't be recycled. Plastic gardening pots, as well as disposable flower shells, should go in your garbage once you are finished planting (or accidentally break a pot!)
