Are you getting rid of large items as part of your spring cleaning? We have an easy solution for you!

Through our large and extra items sticker program, you can dispose of many items that don’t fit in your cart at the curb, you just need the right stickers on them!

Curbside Collection Process

Through this program, we offer two types of stickers that can be used to dispose of your item. The larger the item, the more it costs to get it gone.

Extra Trash Stickers: These stickers are $1 each and can be used on items like extra bags of garbage or kids toys under 30 lbs.

Large Item Stickers: These stickers are $5 each. Most items require one or two of these stickers and can be set out on your regular collection day, no scheduling needed! Common large items that are disposed of curbside are chairs, sofas, and mattresses.

Appliances: For appliances like a washer, stove, or fridge, you’ll need seven $5 large item stickers. While most large items are picked up without scheduling on your regular collection day, there is an exception for appliances. You can call our office at 515.244.0021 to schedule an appliance for pickup.

To see if your community participates in our large and extra item sticker program and view an extensive list of items that can be collected and how many stickers are required, please visit our Extra Trash and Large Items webpage.

Just remember to set your item(s) at the curb by 6 AM with stickers attached and visible from the street! And don’t fret if your carts are collected before your large item – typically a different truck comes around to collect them later in the day.

Where Can I Buy Stickers?

Stickers are sold at many retailers around the metro, some city hall offices, or you can even order them online!

Are There Alternatives to Curbside Collection?

There sure are! One alternative to getting rid of your large item is to donate it. Re-use is a great way to keep items out of the landfill and potentially help someone in need! Another alternative is to haul your item to a landfill, like Metro Park East or Metro Park West.
