2nd Saturday

Metro residents can drop off old paint, lawn chemicals, bleach, batteries, motor oil, gasoline, and other household hazardous waste on the 2nd Saturday of the month, March-November, from 8 AM-Noon, at Metro Northwest Transfer Station in Grimes.

Recycling Drop-Offs

During our 2nd Saturday events, recycling drop-offs are also available for cardboard, glass, and mixed recycling. All residents can use these free drop-offs! View a list of recyclables accepted here.

Bagged Grow Gold Compost

During 2nd Saturday events, you can also pick up bagged Grow Gold Compost to give your garden a boost! Our compost is made right here in Central Iowa from local yard waste and helps promote healthy, lush plant growth, without chemical fertilizers. Sealed bags are 1 cubic foot and just $7 each. How To Get There

Conveniently located at our Metro Northwest Transfer Station, 4105 SE Beisser Drive in Grimes, just a half-mile west of IA-Hwy 141. Head down Beisser Drive until you come up on our big lighted sign and take a left. Then, hang another quick left through the gate and red signs will guide you the rest of the way!

Can't Make It? 

You've still got options! Household hazardous waste can be taken to the Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off or the Metro Northwest Transfer Station (by appointment only). Additionally, a variety of household hazardous waste can be picked up just outside your door through our Houseside Collection service.
