The first snowfall has come, there’s a constant chill in the air, and we’re all daydreaming of warmer weather and green grass.

There are still months before it’s time to prep and enjoy your lawn and garden, but do you know what to do with the old weed killers, insecticides, and fertilizers that you used in summers past?

These hazardous items can’t be thrown away like your regular trash, but that doesn’t mean it’s difficult to dispose of them in a safe, smart way!

A variety of household hazardous waste can be dropped off by appointment at Metro Northwest Transfer Station in Grimes. Appointments can be made by giving us a call at 515.244.0021.

Common household items like bleach, rechargeable batteries, oil-based paints, lawn chemicals, old motor oil or gasoline, and energy efficient lightbulbs (CFL) are all accepted for free.

Don’t want to make an appointment? No problem! Drop materials off at Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off in Bondurant or have your household hazardous waste picked up just outside your door with our houseside collection service.
