Need to dispose of a lawn mower? Your options depend on the type of mower you have.

  • Push Mowers: Push mowers can be self-hauled to Metro Park East Landfill or Metro Park West Landfill or set out for curbside collection on your regular pickup day with the correct number of large item stickers attached and visible from the street.
  • Riding Mowers: Riding mowers are too large for curbside collection guidelines. They must be self-hauled to Metro Park East Landfill or Metro Park West Landfill.

Gas, Oil, & Battery Removal

Before disposing of any lawn mower, please remove all fluids and batteries.

  • Gasoline: Drain all fuel. Old gasoline can be taken to Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off in Bondurant or Metro Northwest Transfer Station in Grimes (appointment required).
  • Oil: Drain engine oil and place it in a sealed, labeled container. Used oil is accepted at the same hazardous waste drop-off locations.
  • Batteries: Remove any rechargeable batteries. These can also be taken to our hazardous waste drop-off locations, or they’re accepted at one of our battery drop-off containers located around the metro! Find more information about battery disposal on our Batteries webpage.
