Bulk Purchasing
Bulk compost sales are only available at Metro Park East Landfill. There is a minimum purchase of 1 cubic yard. Compost is loaded with a front loader, so only trucks with open-top loading can be filled. No self-loading is allowed at this facility.
Pricing:
- Residential customers: $14 per cubic yard (maximum purchase of 4 cubic yards per day)
- Commercial customers: $28 per cubic yard (maximum purchase of 20 cubic yards per week)
Cash, checks, and major credit cards are all accepted.

By the Bag
Sealed bags of compost are $7 (this includes tax) and are 1 cubic foot. Bags are available for purchase at the following locations:
Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off in Bondurant
Tuesday-Friday: 1:00 - 5:00 PM
First & Third Saturday: 8:00 AM - Noon
Follow the white/green signs for Hazardous Waste Drop-Off.
Metro Recycling Facility in Grimes
Monday-Thursday: 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Follow the signs for compost purchasing.
Metro Park East Landfill in Mitchellville
Monday-Friday: 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Saturday: 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Once past the brick scalehouse building, take the 2nd right, head all the way down to the corner until Recycling Building 1. Look for the appliance/compost sign and enter into the corresponding garage door of Recycling Building 1.
